For Corrie Mixon, University of Richmond graduate and AmeriCorps volunteer at Boaz & Ruth, service is the foundation of her life and future plans.  She was recently featured in a publication of the Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond.

The old brick arch in our Harvest Thrift Store stands as a symbol of the kind of structure we seek to achieve at Boaz & Ruth. We envision our organization as most effective when it is held up by everyone pushing together as the bricks in an arch—supporting and empowering the vision.

The body does not consist of one limb or organ but many. If the ear should say, “Because I am not the eye, I do not belong to the body,” would that make it any less a part? If the whole body were an eye how would we hear? If the whole body were an ear, how would we smell? The eye is not able to say to the hand, “I have no need of you”. So there is no room for division or discord between the parts of the body. The members all-alike have a mutual interest in and care for one another. (Paraphrase I Corinthians 12:13-26)

The above paraphrase represents the way this program is designed to function. Every position is important, and everyone’s job relates to all the other roles in this mission. Working as a team strongly united, we will do well and will meet the goals we have set.
